Play is based on a simple concept: Art, and specifically music, on a non-formal, "daily life", ludic and direct way. The word "play" in the sense a musician would use it but as a kid also does with toys, "play" as in theatre but also as a game of interaction.
Music comes up here on the less predictable daily contexts and peps and refreshes those contexts, creating moments and spaces that contribute to a renewed experience of the city and its social space.
PicnicPlay
Sunday outdoor event, taking place in big city parks or beaches. An event with mats on the floor, local market products, open workshops for adults and children (music, visual arts, dance, storytelling, etc...), DJ's, animation and space decoration, concerts. Is intended to provide a different sunday afternoon, in which the public comes to have lunch, tea or dinner in a picnic, enjoying all the activities proposed, with a sense of interactivity and joy. It can follow on to a evening party, later.
BusPlay/ShoppingPlay
In this action we propose a more spontaneous intervention in day-to-day life, surprising people not only by presenting music in of an usual place, but mainly because people have an active participation in building the musical event. Unlike the other actions of this project, here the participation doesn't need a specific will or motivation, and that's the pivotal point.
On a normal urban bus ride, 2 musicians come in, hand out musical instruments and make music, spontaneously with the passengers. There will be a lot of interaction and improvisation between all and the activity can take 20 to 30 minutes.
Analog situations in "cafes" and shopping centres can be done. It is someway similar to a flash mob, but people are involved not only as audience but effectively taking part.
HospitalPlay
The goal is to intervene with the concept of "play", in vulnarable and hard to reach communities such as prisons and hospitals.
Creating groups of approximately 20 people, the idea is to work for one day with that group. The workshops typically explore, sonic experiments, improvisation, collaboration, composition, body percussion...
The workshops culminate in an informal shared performance.
target
Play aims to meet the population range that is not so used to the musical and cultural activity, calling it to participate in actions like BusPlay, PicnicPlay or HospitalPlay. This is general public, selected by the schools or hospitals or even randomly found on buses or shopping centres.
On the other hand, in proposals like BusPlay or PicnicPlay, the intent is also to surprise the visitor or the tourist, promoting a dynamic and clear image of the city and its public space. There's an idea of originality, irreverence, well-being and happiness in each of the activities; and an aim that the public grows gradually and participates more and more regularly.
